From the field, for the field: the Fendt ForageQualityCam

The family-run contracting firm Henke is based in the predominantly agricultural region of Lower Saxony. In order to meet the growing demands placed on a modern and successful contracting business, the key requirements today are, above all, reliability, rapid deployment, high efficiency and a consistently high standard of work. After all, it is the quality of the work that ultimately determines customer satisfaction.

Against this backdrop, Jörg Henke relies on the innovative ForageQualityCam technology when harvesting maize with his Fendt Katana to ensure he has continuous control over grain processing (CSPS value). "This is now just as important as loss control on a combine harvester," said Henke. This system helps the Team to keep a close eye on the quality of the crop at all times and to respond immediately to any changes.

Our many years of practical experience as a Fendt partner are particularly valuable in this regard. The Henke contracting firm was involved in the development of the ForageQualityCam from an early stage and worked closely with Fendt’s development department. The result was a solution that was not developed at a desk, but which had its origins directly in the requirements and experiences gained in the field. In keeping with our motto: ‘Farmers First’.

Committed contractors: Ensuring quality in real time

The family-run farm has been harvesting with Fendt Katana machines for several years now. From the very beginning, the Fendt Katana’s outstanding chopping quality was a key factor. However, the requirements for grain processing, in particular, repeatedly posed a challenge. At the same time, customers’ expectations regarding verifiable and consistently high feed quality grew.

Christoph Henke has been working in his parents’ business for three years and is fully familiar with the practical demands of the job. “For years, we lacked a system of checks and balances.” “We wanted to ensure that we could deliver the same chipping quality throughout the working day, whilst at the same time reducing the workload on our operators,” he says, describing the initial situation.

Consistent quality throughout the day

This is the system’s second season. The operators noticed the added value from day one. Constantly getting out of the vehicle to check the crop, or making regular phone calls to colleagues at the silo, are now a thing of the past.

Christoph Henke has also experienced this first-hand: “I feel much safer as an operator.” "I can check at any time to see how the grain processing is going and present this information to our customers in a transparent manner."

The real-time information on grain processing during chopping is particularly valuable. “Every maize plant can be processed in a different way; there isn’t just one setting,” says Jörg Henke. As each maize plant reacts differently to the processing, the system – comprising a high-speed camera and AI-supported image analysis – immediately highlights changes in the processing and enables machine settings to be adjusted quickly to suit the prevailing conditions.

Quality control carried out directly in the field rather than months later

For the business, maintaining a consistently high standard of quality throughout the working day is a top priority. The ForageQualityCam ensures that grain processing can be monitored directly on the machine at any time.

Another advantage is that problems are identified straight away. If, for example, an irregularity occurs at the cracker, the operator can react immediately and prevent any loss of quality.

“By the time the lab results come back in winter, it’s already far too late to make any adjustments.” "We need the information at the very moment the maize leaves the forage harvester," explains Henke. It is precisely this level of transparency that the ForageQualityCam provides whilst in operation.

Meeting customers’ highest expectations

The contractor’s clients expect the highest quality forage and professional documentation of the harvesting work. For Henke, therefore, the new technology is far more than just a technical extra.

“Our clients and their advisers expect the very highest quality from us. "With the ForageQualityCam, we can continuously monitor this quality and ensure that we meet our standards at all times."

The ability to monitor and verify grain processing in real time builds additional trust and strengthens cooperation with farms.

Fendt Katana and Fendt ForageQualityCam: Proven today, the standard of tomorrow

After two successful years of operation, the conclusion is clear. The practical experience gained and the analysis of previous seasons confirm the system’s benefits.

“The ForageQualityCam is a real step forward for us. "Based on our experience, this technology will become standard on our machines in future," says Christoph Henke with conviction.

One thing is certain when it comes to operation: the Fendt Katana not only delivers maximum cutting power and chop quality, but also opens up a whole new dimension of quality control thanks to the ForageQualityCam. A win-win situation for operators, contractors and customers alike.
