From South to North

Since the middle of May 2020 the fourth new 700 has been in operation at Martin Carstensen from Horstedt. Due to Corona the delivery of the Fendt 722 Vario from Marktoberdorf in southern Germany to Husum in northern Germany was delayed. “We have swapped three tractors and in return ordered four new ones. Three of them have already been delivered and were running in the maize sowing. The fourth 700 was now used mainly for transportation in the first cut”, so Martin Carstensen.

Previously he was renting an additional tractor during the saison at the Raiffeisen Technik Westküste (west coast) to check the capacity utilization. Since all machines are used for an average of 1,000 operating hours per year, he has now opted for another Fendt.

“The newer technology for track guidance with the Countour Assistant and VCR together with the good conditions has convinced me”, so the farmer. He has a 600 ha large mixed operation with dairy cattle, arable farming, fodder cultivation, a biogas plant and also runs a contracting business with five employees.

Despite the missing tractor Corona is not affecting the work of the operations manager. “Our drivers no longer take our customers as co-drivers but otherwhise we actually work as usual, both on our farm and in our wages”.

Over the years Martin Carstensen and his father have bought several Fendt tractors. “It could well be 40 or 50 Fendt tractors”, Martin Carstensen guesses. “Reliable technology is particularly important in contract farming and with our new 700 we have a powerful all-rounder with low weight and a high technical standard. I like that”, explains the farmer and contractor.
