" Tracks are a Must "

Diagonally opposite the island of Rügen lies Kemnitz, a small town near Greifswald where Bosse Klepper has his farm. "We have 900 hectares of arable land with our own grain drying facility. We mainly grow wheat, winter barley, rye and rapeseed," explains the farm manager. "However, we only use grain drying if we have to. We prefer to harvest dry, but the unreliable weather on the coast does not always allow this. We often have dry soil on the surface and very wet soil underneath, so we have to work carefully to protect the soil. Tracks are therefore a must for us," he describes the requirements of his farm.

"We work almost completely without a plow, so the even distribution of straw is a key factor for us. The straw must be chopped as short as possible and evenly distributed so that no straw mats are formed. Then we can easily incorporate the straw and the subsequent crops grow more evenly," says Klepper. In this type of processing, the straw is undercut to promote the humus layer and soil life and can prevent water loss through wind erosion. Especially for rapeseed cultivation, the straw must be evenly distributed and worked in, because with straw mats in the soil, the rapeseed does not grow evenly.

In addition to grain, Bosse Klepper also grows potatoes and sugar beets. The sugar beets are delivered to the sugar factory in Anklam, the rapeseed goes to the oil mills in Rostock and Lubmin, and the wheat is transported to the port in Vierow and from there shipped worldwide. Typical for the coast. "Some of our fields even have a view of the water, which is certainly not the typical view when threshing, but really beautiful.” However, the coastal location of the fields also means that the weather can change quickly.

In addition to our own areas, 160 hectares of neighboring land are harvested, so the combine's area output is crucial for Bosse Klepper. "The Fendt IDEAL 9T and Fendt IDEAL 10T are interesting for me because they are powerful, their long rotors allow gentle threshing with very good grain quality and, thanks to the tracks, they are gentle on the soil. Furthermore, there is no alternative to a rotor combine in this performance class".

"Rapeseed is the supreme discipline in threshing, so it would be important to see the Fendt IDEAL in rapeseed once again, but overall the driving feel fits and it meets my requirements. The cab is quiet, bright and well laid out, the straw distribution is fine and the driving feel is good both in forward and reverse travel thanks to the tracks," sums Klepper up. The maintenance-friendly design of the large combine harvester immediately caught the eye: "This gives you very good access to belts and possible wear parts and the grain tank is really big," the farmer noted after the walkaround.
